An exempt individual includes the following: (a) A Diplomat or other foreign government-related individual or a member of such a person's immediate family; (b) A teacher or trainee; (c) A student; (d) A commuter from Canada or Mexico; (e) A person in transit between two foreign points who was in the U.S. for less than 24 hours; (f) A person unable to leave the U.S. because of a medical condition which arose while he or she was in the U.S.; or (g) A professional athlete present in the U.S. to compete in certain charitable sports events.
